Privacy Policy for Micro Stoic
Last Updated: December 18, 2025
Introduction
Micro Stoic ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data when you use our app.
Data Storage
Local Storage:
All journal entries, moods, gratitude notes, and personal reflections are stored locally on your device. Your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to enable cloud sync.
Data Location:
- Journal entries: Stored in SwiftData database on your device
- User preferences: Stored in UserDefaults on your device
- No data is transmitted to external servers
Cloud Sync
Optional Feature:
Cloud sync is completely optional and user-controlled. You can enable or disable it at any time in the app's Settings.
Apple Devices (iCloud):
- Your journal data is encrypted by Apple using end-to-end encryption
- Data is synced across your devices signed into the same iCloud account
- You can disable sync at any time, which will stop syncing but won't delete existing data
Android Devices (Google Drive):
- Your journal data is encrypted and stored in your personal Google Drive
- Data is synced across your devices signed into the same Google account
- You can disable sync at any time, which will stop syncing but won't delete existing data
Privacy:
- We do not have access to your cloud data
- Apple and Google handle all encryption and syncing on their respective platforms
- Your data remains private and secure
Privacy-First by Design
Our Philosophy:
We believe journaling and reflection tools should empower users — not monitor them. Micro Stoic is built around aggregated insights, not individual surveillance.
What We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to operate and improve the app:
- Aggregated usage counts: Feature adoption, general usage patterns (e.g., how many users use the calendar view)
- System reliability metrics: Error reports, performance data (anonymized, no personal content)
- App functionality data: Basic app state to ensure features work correctly
How We Measure Effectiveness
We evaluate success through population-level trends, such as:
- Percentage of users engaging with different features
- Feature adoption over time (aggregate only)
- App stability and performance improvements
- General usage patterns (never individual behavior)
We do not analyze individual behavior or content. Your journal entries are never accessed, analyzed, or transmitted.
Third-Party Services
Minimal and Privacy-Respecting:
- We may use basic, anonymized analytics to understand app performance
- Any third-party services are privacy-first and do not collect personal data
We Do Not Collect
- Your journal entries or personal reflections
- Mood data or emotional content
- Behavioral timelines or activity patterns
- Cross-app or cross-site data
- Personal content for marketing
- Advertising identifiers
- Third-party tracking data
- Device identifiers that can track you
- Location data
What We Never Do
- Sell or broker personal data
- Run ads or ad tracking
- Build individual behavioral profiles
- Share identifiable user data with partners
- Use your journal content for any purpose
Third-Party Services (What We Don't Use)
- No advertising networks or tracking services
- No crash reporting that includes personal content
Data Ownership & Control
You Own Your Data:
- All journal entries, moods, and personal reflections belong to you
- You can export your data at any time from within the app
- You can delete your data at any time by deleting the app
- You control what data is synced via cloud services
Export Feature:
Export your journal as text from the Journal view. Share via email, messages, or save to files. No restrictions on how you use your exported data.
Your Control:
You always have full control over your data. We collect only aggregated metrics necessary for app operation — never your personal content or identifiable information.
Compliance & Standards
Our approach aligns with:
- App Store privacy standards: We follow Apple and Google's privacy guidelines and best practices
- GDPR principles: Data minimization, purpose limitation, and user control
- Privacy by design: Privacy is built into the app from the ground up
Why This Matters
We believe that:
- Higher trust leads to better user engagement
- Privacy-first design protects both users and the platform
- User control builds long-term trust
